Course Description:

Students will investigate the relationship among letters, space, fonts, and type systems. Studentsą activities will include copying, fitting, and styling text type; spacing and rendering display (posters etc.) arrangements; and marking up and specifying both text and display type. Typographic attributes will be applied to enhance readability and logos will be designed, rescanned, and digitized. Students will also develop the ability to work BOTH within the realms of (traditional) contemporary and computer aided design.

Please note: This is a Capstone class, Graphic Design students will need to get a C or better in order to pass, any grade lower will result in retaking the clas.

Course Competencies:

€ Distinguish between various font families

€ Recognize the personality demonstrated among different fonts

€ Utilize vocabulary with respect to typography

€ Become familiar and creative with Adobe Illustrator.

€ Identify typography nuances within particular applications

€ Critique, discuss, and apply appropriate typographic solutions

€ Students must be able to demonstrate by the end of this class-basic font identification, formatting of

standard digital type, layout of type, creation of type, custom manipulation of type, and design of

type in relative applied situation.
