Course Description:

This course is designed to examine photo retouching and image manipulation using computers. Students will use this software to manipulate photographic images to the point where they no longer resemble the original artwork.(Prereq. GD1400 - Computer Applications)

Course Competencies:

       Define image manipulation terminology

       Identify the major hardware components necessary to perform photo retouch and image manipulaiton in a computer environment

       Describe and explain printing and production techniques for image manipulation

       Demonstrate a working knowledge of photo retouch and image maipulation software

 

Textbooks:

None required

 

 

Materials and Supplies:

Mounting supplies; Mounting board, ruler, xacto blade, spray mount

Students should also expect some expenses to output color prints

 

 

Estimated Homework Hours:

2-4 hrs/wk which includes collecting resources (images), journals

 

 

Technology Needed:

Digital storage (Cds, jumpdrives, portable hardrive), Corbis library, digital camera

Grading: Classroom Performance =10% Assignments =55% Weekly image journal =35%

 

A 94-100, A- 90-93, B+ 87-89, B 84-86, B- 80-83, C+ 77-79, C 74-76, C- 70-73, D+ 67-69, D 60-66, F below 60

 

       There are a total of 8 assignments incorporating a variety of image manipulation processes. Aside from these, there is a weekly image journal that is due the Thursday of each week beginning week #2 – week #10. Each of these is worth 2 points for a total of 20 possible points. The following outlines the possible points on each:

 

 

 

 

 

€ Assignment #1 – B/W colorization = 5 points

€ Assignment #2 – American Gothic = 10 points

€ Assignment #3 – A Day in the Life ofŠ =15 points

€ Assignment #4 – Corporate I.D. = 15 points

€ Assignment #5 – Conceptual (*in class) Word = 20 points

€ Assignment #6 – Student –in class- Demo = 10 points

€ Assignment #7 - Web site design= 20 points

€ Discretionary 5 points

 

Total for assignments = 100 points
