Course Description:

This course will prepare students for job interviews by helping them compile a portfolio. Students will demonstrate their conceptual design, craftsmanship, and other skills as they assemble and refine their portfolio pieces. Each student will select representative pieces, showcasing work that reflects a unique style. Particular emphasis is placed on identifying short and long-term professional employment goals, as well as related strategies and resources.

 

Course Objective:

 

 

In this class, students will transfer knowledge from design, writing, career development, and speech courses in the creation of their work, descriptions of their projects, and presentation of their completed portfolio. The objective is that studentsą accumulated knowledge, practical skills, technical abilities and problem solving skills will integrate in your portfolio classes. This course builds on what you developed in Portfolio Prep.

·       Course Competencies: Review specific information on intended employers

·       Evaluate and appraise employer needs

·       Observe and match strengths to employer needs

·       Students should be researching/interviewing possible employers and doing the above evaluations.

·       Differentiate self from competition.

·       Understand your strengths and weaknesses compared to others.

·       Customize presentation to meet employer expectations.

·       Knowing employers needs, adapt your portfolio presentation.

·       Recognize the standards typically associated with a professional-level portfolio, and apply these to the selection, organization, and presentation of projects collected over the course of the program.

·       Critically evaluate personal work-in-progress for market relevance and level of professional finish, and bring existing items up to a high level of presentation readiness.

·       Organize artwork in a portfolio that represents strengths

·       Present a formal package orally and in writing.

·       Initiate post-presentation feedback.

·       Evaluate personal and professional skills and interests relative to their application in possible career paths and projects in graphic design.

·       Identify legal rights and ethical responsibilities related to the job-research and career development process.

·       Devise a professional timing and action calendar
